Five Ladies from Thirsk have completed the charity Moonwalk in London raising more than £3,000 for charity.
The 26.2-mile walk on Clapham Common took place on May 11 and 12 and raised money for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.
The group, who named themselves The Disco Divas were, Tracey Ashton, Gillian Pyman, Angie Elders, Mandi Dyson and Annette Steel.
Tracey said: “Annette was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2016, she had a lumpectomy in December 2016 and lymph node removal in January 2017, six rounds of chemotherapy in February 2017 followed by four weeks of radiotherapy treatment all completed by July 2017 when she received a clean bill of health.“
The World of James Herriot sponsored the group along with Grand Central Rail who provided their return journey to the capital from Thirsk Station to Kings Cross Station.
Tracey added: “Annette has nothing but praise for the NHS and wanted to give something back and do something positive.
“Gillian is an advanced practitioner in breast imaging at the Friarage Hospital and sees patients going for mammograms either agonising they have breast cancer or their cancer has returned.
“We hope our contribution to the charity’s work will help more people like Annette.”
The World of James Herriot managing director and chairman of the Herriot Country Tourism Group, Ian Ashton said: “We felt this to be an excellent local initiative and that we could assist in a small way by giving our support to the group’s effort with the help of our commercial partners.”
