Bedale’s swimming pool has reopened today after a six-day closure due to vandalism.
A roof tile was forced into the boiler’s flue which caused it to overheat and burn out – and leave the centre with no ability to heat the pool water.
A temporary boiler has now been installed while the damage is assessed and a permanent replacement boiler fitted.
“We apologise for the closure which has been completely out of our control and thank our customers for being so understanding,” said David Ashbridge, leisure operational delivery manager.
“This wilful act of vandalism is going to cost tens of thousands of pounds to repair and has spoiled activities for users of Bedale Leisure Centre.”
The swimming pool re-opens today at 12.30pm – all programmed activities will operate as normal, including swimming lessons.
It has been estimated the damage will cost more than £20,000 to repair.
North Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident – anyone with information is asked to call them on 101 quoting reference 12190085783.
