Northallerton Mowbray Rotarians support Friarage with mid-summer ball

Members of the Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray don masks ready for their fundraising ball.

Northallerton Mowbray Rotarians have chosen the new cancer centre at the Friarage Hospital to benefit from their forthcoming mid-summer ball.

Money raised at the Midsummer Masquerade Ball on Friday, June 28, at Solberge Hall Hotel, will be split between the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre and Rotary charities.

The centre, costing £10m, was opened in late 2018 and offers the very best cancer treatment facilities.

The cost of the centre was met by the Yorkshire philanthropist after whom the centre is named, the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and the Macmillan cancer charity. The charity launched a £500,000 public appeal to help meet its share.

Janet Crampton, president of the Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray, said the centre had been her cause of choice during her presidential year.

“The centre is a leading-edge addition to the services offered by our much-loved local hospital and the club has been committed to supporting it for two years. In that time we have raised more than £3,000 and we hope to make another major contribution from the proceeds of the ball.

“We hope as many people as possible will join us in support of the centre which is already providing an invaluable service to cancer sufferers in our area.”

Guests attending the event will be treated to a three-course meal and live music for dancing. There will also be a raffle.

The wearing of masks at the black-tie event is encouraged but is not essential.

Tickets cost £45 and can by booked by contacting Anthony Wood on 07885 654795 or at anthony@scrutonvillage.co.uk
