Dozens of neighbourhood schemes look set to be awarded a share of a £125,000 fund to boost communities.
Hambleton District councillors from each of the five market town areas have selected 42 projects to receive up to £8,285 as part of its Making a Difference grants scheme after receiving requests for a total of £274,409.
Successful schemes demonstrated they would drive the local economy, enhance health and wellbeing care for the environment or provide a special place to live.
The largest grants include £8,285.00 to Tollerton Sports and Recreation Committee to transform the village’s playing fields and £5,000 to the Friends of Thirsk School for improvements to the inclusion unit and community centre.
Other projects among the 42 selected to receive funding include £4,000 for Brafferton and Helperby’s cobbles restoration project, £3,200 for a revamp of Ainderby Steeple Village Hall and £5,000 for riverside footpath improvements to be overseen by Rudby Parish Council.
Councillor John Noone, who was among those who decided upon the grant applications, said the fund enabled those with local knowledge to direct funding to where it was most needed or would most benefit the community.
