A scheme that has seen more than 150 young people taken on as apprentices across Hambleton is celebrating its seventh year.
The district council’s apprentice scheme provides grant aid to small Hambleton based businesses to help create new opportunities for 16 to 24 year olds living in the Hambleton area.
As part of next week’s National Apprentice Week from March 4 to 8, schools are now promoting apprenticeship opportunities to students leaving schools and colleges from this summer – with career advisors in all schools and colleges keen to hear from prospective employers.
The Hambleton scheme was launched in 2012 and has so far helped 156 apprentices – in a variety of roles including AAT Accounting Technician, Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician, Site Surveying Technician, Digital Marketer Dental Nurse, Sales and Lettings Negotiator and Social Media.
The wage subsidy grant is £2,000 and is given to support small businesses that have been trading for at least three months, with priority given to those that employ less than 20 employees – the apprenticeship role must be for at least one year with the apprentice working for at least 30 hours a week.
