Inspectors welcome improvements at Bedale School

Bedale School.

Ofsted has declared Bedale School a good school with inspectors welcoming a “step change” in the quality of education.

The school was judged to require improvement following its last inspection.

However, inspectors noted following their two-day visit last month that the new senior leadership team had addressed issued head on and there had been “substantial improvements” at the school.

The behaviour of pupils was one of the biggest areas of improvement, the report said.

As well as the school’s overall effectiveness being good, Bedale was found to be good in all other area, including effectiveness of leadership and management and quality of teaching, learning and assessment.

The report stated: “There has been a step change in the quality of education at Bedale.

“The new leadership team has dealt with weaker aspects of provision
‘head on’.

“They have secured substantial improvements at school.”

It continued: “The most striking improvement has been in the standards of behaviour of pupils.

“Pupils now behave well when moving around the site and most focus well on their learning.

“Pupils, parents and teachers agree that behaviour is now much better at school.”

Several area for improvement were noted in the report.

Inspectors said the school needed to improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment by ensuring that most-able pupils were pushed further and ensured that teachers planned to meet the needs of pupils with SEND consistently.
