Firefighters from across North Yorkshire were called to tackle a blaze in a workshop in Leeming today.

Crews from Bedale, Northallerton, Ripon, Richmond, Thirsk and Harrogate attended the blaze in the unit, which contained propane cylinders, in Roman Road.

The fire was reported at 10.45am.

On their arrival crews found the workshop, which is approximately 30m by 20m, well alight.

Motorists were warned smoke may be crossing the A1 in the area.

Three main jets and two hose reel jets were used to tackle the fire and try to prevent it spreading.

The aerial ladder platform was also used, as well as the water bowser from Tadcaster.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service announced at around 1pm that the incident was being scaled down.

A spokesperson said: “Three fire engines and the aerial ladder platform will remain at the scene.”
