100-year-old football league seeks new teams

A men’s football league which has been running for more than 100 years is seeking new teams.

The Scotts for Storage Wensleydale League is offering various incentives to teams looking to join, including free entry and two free match balls.

The league, which marked its 100th anniversary in 2019, plays on a Saturday.

Teams from the Dales, Richmond and Catterick areas are currently members, although in past seasons teams from Teesdale and Hambleton areas have joined

League chairman Paul Dinsdale said: “The Wensleydale Football League has been going for over 100 years, and this season has seen yet another extremely competitive fight for the league title.

“With teams throughout the dale and Richmond, it is a fantastic showcase of local footballing talent, enjoyed by so many in the local community.

“We are having a push for new teams next season as we look to take the number of participants back to double figures, and this open to teams as far as Barnard Castle, Bedale, Northallerton, Thirsk, Skipton and surrounding areas.

“If you were interested in finding more out about the league then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
