The mother of a teenager who died after taking ecstasy says she is overwhelmed by the support she has received since the tragedy.

Kerry Roberts was speaking after friends and family gathered at the Applegarth car park in Northallerton on Saturday for a vigil following the death of 17-year-old Leah Heyes.

Kerry said: “I would like to thank everyone for all of the kind messages and tributes following the death of my beautiful daughter Leah.

“I’m overwhelmed with the support that people have shown.

“Thank you for coming together to remember Leah tonight, it’s such a fitting tribute to her as she loved to be around people and to spend time with her friends.

“She would be really happy to know that you all cared so much about her.”

Leah died in hospital after collapsing in the car park on Saturday, May 11.

Police say she had taken MDMA, also known as ecstasy, before her death.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, a boy aged 17 and a man aged 18.

Both have been released while under investigation.
